چکیده
Microorganisms isolated from Imo River estuary were analyzed for hydrocarbonoclastic and extracellular enzyme potentials. Nin (19) microbial species with variable distribution and prevalence were species. The nineteen microbial isolates exhibited variable levels of amylolytic, lipolytic, proteolytic, cellulolytic and ch activity. Six out of the eleven bacterial isolates and of efficiencies. This study has revealed useful information about the periodic and seasonal variations in anthropogenic and environmental gradients that occur in Imo River Corresponding author email: [email protected] Dynamic Network for Research Works DNetRW © 2014 http://www.dnetrw.com International Journal of Biological Sciences (IJBS) ISSN: http://www.dnetrw.com Vol. 01, No. 0 1Antai, S. Particle-size fractions-dependent extracellular enzyme activity in sediments and implications for resource allocation in a subtropical mangrove ecosystem
The distribution of extracellular enzyme activities in particle-size fractions of sediments was investigated in a subtropical mangrove ecosystem. Five enzymes involved in carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) cycling were analyzed in the sand, silt, and clay of sediments. Among these fractions, the highest activities of phenol oxidase (PHO), β-D glucosidase (GLU), and N-acetyl-glucosimin...
متن کاملWomen in the Niger Delta: Environmental Issues and Challenges in the Third Millennium A. O. I. Gabriel Introduction
The Niger Delta is located in Southern Nigeria and is Africa’s largest delta, covering about 70,000 square kilometers, and with about one-third of it made up of wetlands, and the third largest world mangrove forests. The Niger Delta is unique in Nigeria because it is the home of Nigeria’s oil industry, with its attendant environmental hazards such as water, land, air pollution, etc. Human activ...
متن کاملSustainable Management Approach for Biodervisity Loss in the Mangrove Forest Swamps of the Cross River Estuary
The goal of this paper is to assess the principles and policy consideration for biodiversity conservation in the Cross River estuary using secondary data. This is informed by the need to document the status of the resources of the estuary as a basis for regulating the future exploitation and for the protection of the mangrove ecosystem in order to enhance sustainability.
متن کاملAssessing Heavy Metals Pollution of the Mangrove Sediments along Tidal Flat of the Mehran River Delta, Persian Gulf
The relationship between the concentration of heavy metals and physicochemical factors was studied in the fine-grained sediments of the tidal section of the Mehran delta where mangrove trees have grown. Surface sediments of the tidal zone of the Mehran delta were sampled. The grain size distribution, calcium carbonate, organic matter contents, pH/Eh, and heavy metals concentration were determin...
متن کاملImprovement of tannase production under submerged fermentation by Aspergillus niger FBT1 isolated from a mangrove forest
Aspergillus niger FBT1, a local extracellular strain for tannase production, was isolated from soil collected from Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve in Perak, Malaysia. This fungus strain was cultivated in an Erlenmeyer flask under a submerged fermentation system. Medium compositions play a very important role in enhancing enzyme production during fermentation. The production of tannase by A. nige...
